Make Your Own Doggy Bow Tie - Tried and Tested
Every now and again I decide I fancy doing a little bit of crafting. I must admit these occasions are few and far between, but I do find it relaxing and fun to make something that turns out semi decent and useful! It was around Halloween, I was looking for some fun accessories for Jenson when I thought, how hard can it be to make a doggy bow tie? Turns out, its actually quite easy!
I searched the internet for the easiest and most straightforward tutorial and came across DIY Dog Bow Tie (thecaninestory.com). The instructions are super straight forward, and turned out to be super easy! You print out the templates, read the instructions, watch the video, and off you go.
I purchased a bundle of Halloween squares from Amazon, and purchased my fusing fabric material from a local craft shop. Personally I found that the bow ties were coming up quite large for Jenson, so I played around with some smaller measurements (around 1-2cm off the length and width) and produced a better size for him. I found going any smaller than this just made them too tricky to sew!
One other modification I made was how I sewed on the elastic bow. I found it was looking quite messy, and being a bit OCD, I wanted to find a away to make it look neater. I did this by folding off the end of piece B (the middle tie) over the end of the elastic, tucking it in (see pumpkin bow tie picture). Also be careful when ironing on the binding fabric as I kept getting it stuck to my iron!
So have a go, its just something to make that doesn’t take too much time, and you can even give them away as presents!
